The Evolution of Our Name
In 2024, Ladies of the Oracle changed the “O” in our name to reflect our spirit of mirthful mystery.
Although “orient” is still used as a geographical term, its usage is declining, and LOTO desires to ensure our order is not mistaken for anything insensitive or offensive.
We embrace “Oracle” and reject anything that makes light of any people, culture, or religion.
Our Past Mistakes
A 1930s newspaper clipping brought it to our attention that a LOTO chapter hosted a racist performance. This was abhorrent and wrong both then and now.
LOTO denounces racism, bigotry, sexism, and hatred in all forms. We celebrate absurdity and mystical kitsch, but never at the expense of others.
Our Apology
We humbly acknowledge our organization’s past mistakes, offer a sincere apology, and are committed to fostering a spirit of kindness and respect.
